ABOUT THE ARTIST

On Martha’s Vineyard, Barbara Levitov took her first workshop with three expert potters each introducing her to a different approach to making art with clay. Once she stuck her hands in the clay it was all over. This was for her.

Returning home, she took classes at The Needham Potters Shop and School as well as the Danforth Museum. From then on, she kept sitting at the wheel to make functional pottery. Bowls. Vases. Casseroles. Mugs. Pitchers. Over time, she took more workshops with experts regionally and abroad at Le Meridiana International School of Ceramics in Tuscany, all toward accumulating broader knowledge and skill. And, having fun, of course.

Nowadays, she’s experimenting with nontraditional shapes as well as gas firing raku (decorative vases). What’s next? What’s next is a mystery and that’s the excitement of playing with clay.
